Kora National
Park, Located
280 km from
Nairobi in Tana
District of the
Kenya Coast
region. Kora was
gazetted in 1973
as a national reserve and
gazetted as a
park in 1990. It
lies on 1700km2
and is bounded
by the Tana
River. It is
generally hot
and dry. Its
landscape has
vegetation of
dense woodland
and scrub
interspersed
with isolated
rocky outcrops,
called Inselberts. The
park has several
seasonal rivers
also. The land
surface slopes
gently from an
altitude of 490m
in the
south-west and
about 270m in
the north-east.

person
to
hand-raise
orphaned
lion
cubs
and
returning
them
to
the

George Adamson (3 - 02-1906 – 20-08-1989, also known as the "Baba ya Simba" ("Father of Lions" in Swahili), a British wildlife conservationist and his wife Joy best known through the movie Born Free and a book with the same title, which is based on the true story of Elsa the Lioness, an orphaned lioness cub they raised and later released into the wild in Kora national park. |

are also about
500 species of
insect, 21
species of fish,
33 mollusks and
40 reptiles in
the park.
